Building lasting client relationships doesn’t just happen.

It’s a process of creating an experience where your clients come to know, like, and trust...even love you! Client management can look different in different industries, but at the heart, it’s always the same.

Let’s take a look at 5 ways I recommend you utilize to build client relationships:

1. Make them feel comfortable

So how do you do that? Easy. Talk to them and get to know them as a person! Once you look past all the client management crap, remember that they are people too. At the end of the day, building a successful business is all about relationships.  Don’t focus on selling, focus on building great relationships.

2. DON’T FLY BY THE SEAT OF YOUR PANTS

Understand that strong relationships take time. You are not going to be trusted right away and that’s okay. You have to build that trust first. So have a process and method to keep track of the relationships you’re building. Take notes, be a good listener, and then follow up.

3. ALWAYS ONBOARD NEW CLIENTS

What the F is onboarding!? Sit down and carve out time to understand the path you want your client to take when they sign on with you. Then standardize that process for every client. Giving a consistent experience is vital when you’re building a brand. And from personal experience, you will receive a large portion of referrals if you do this well.

4. CONSISTENCY IS KEY

Clients want to hear from you to make sure things are going well. They want to have that consistent communication to give them the opportunity to ask questions and have you be approachable. The more you follow up, the more trust will be built and the better the relationship will be.

5. Create SYSTEMS

Use those CRM (Client Relationship Management) systems we all hold near and dear!  You want to be able to automate as many of the connections as possible without it feeling like an auto-respond. I personally love Dubsado to manage my leads and clients, but even utilizing canned emails in Gmail is a system that could help!

In today’s digital world, it’s easy to forget the basics of client relationships. Build relationships first! It’s way easier to sell to a friend.
